Surveys

BL Ecology can offer surveys for protected species, habitat surveys and also assist with ecological input towards BREEAM and Code for Sustainable Homes.

Staff have the knowledge and experience of undertaking surveys for a wide range of species and this is regularly updated by attending training provided by the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, the Field Studies Council, or independent training providers.  This also provides up-to-date information on procedures and guidance available for the production of written reports and Environmental Statements.

We have undertaken extensive mitigation and site supervision for species over the last eight years including dormice, bats, newts, reptiles, water vole and badger and have held numerous Natural England development licences for bats and newts.

Surveys and mitigation have been enabled by our extensive health and safety training undertaken by key staff.  Training includes confined spaces for entrance into structures such as water culverts and ice houses for bat surveys, CSCS to enable access onto construction sites, and EUSR for working on pipelines. We also have emergency first aid training.

All of our reports are supported by a high standard of digital mapping, which is created in-house using Mapinfo GIS.
